My Life Outside the Classroom
Yes it's true. I have a "life" outside of school filled with fun and loved ones. I have been married 22 years to David Perkins whom I met on a "blind date". We work very hard with our 2 beautiful, intelligent and loving children. Miles is 19 years old and is a junior at the University of Wisconsin-Madison majoring in Mechanical Engineering. He made the Deans List during this past spring semester! COVID-19! Online classes! He persevered. Because of these factors and others, he earned a scholarship to attend this Big 10 school. Milena is 16 years old and is a junior in high school. She attends Sarasota Technical College for her morning classes, and then heads to Sarasota High School for her AICE classes. She volunteers at a local hospital because she dreams of being a neonatal nurse. Both of these amazing individuals "WOW" me daily!
I love to garden and spend time outdoors as much as possible. Hiking. Biking. Kayaking. You name it, I am willing to begin an adventure each and every day!
I also love to read. I spend most of this time reading YA/Children's books so that I am better able to advise my young readers of "good" books. I am a member of the BRMS Book Club. This special group of teachers and counselors meet monthly at local restaurants to discuss the books read. We read both adult and YA/Children's novels.
The event that I am most proud of in my life was when I earned a full athletic scholarship to the University of South Carolina - Coastal Carolina College. I not only formed lasting relationships, but also acquired my work ethic during these running days. Being a team player was crucial to the Cross Country and track teams' successes. It also taught me many great lessons that still live on in my memories.
