SUMMER IS HERE!!! WELCOME incoming sixth graders! I sure hope that you're on my roster in August! What's happening this summer? 6/25-6/28/18: I'm attending a teacher workshop to learn more about how to best meet English Language Learners' needs. Learning should never stop! What novels I've read so far this summer ... 90 Miles to Havana by Enrique Flores Galbis Okay for Now by Gary Schmidt Circling the Sun by Paula McLain The Shell Collector by Anthony Doerr I encourage you to read some (if not all) of the Sunshine State novels! I just requested a couple titles through my public library. Enjoy some good books over the summer! You will not only not lose ground educationally but travel to places you never dreamed of! Also, carry a journal with you where you travel this summer whether it's to the end of your block or the end of the state so that you can jot down your natural world observations, either in sketches, text, etc. Finally, find time to also rest, relax and reflect on last year. Sixth grade will be filled with exciting adventures that you will control by your daily decisions.Think of a couple of goals that you'd like to accomplish by working toward them during your first year of middle school. Comprehensive Science 1
This year's curriculum road map will lead us through the studies of life, Earth, and physical sciences which will be divided into 9 units. Each unit has an overarching question (listed below) that will guide our learning and direct us as we study the key concepts within each unit. Unit 1: How can we use science to learn about our world? Unit 2: How do natural forces cause Earth's surface to change over time? Unit 3: How does the Sun's energy affect Earth? Unit 4: How do we compare living things? Unit 5: How do the parts work together for the whole? Unit 6: How do organ systems work together to help organisms survive? Unit 7: How does energy change as objects move? Unit 8: How do forces affect motion? |
